Hmmm. Well, this was not supposed to be public yet, but since it is I might as well explain what it is about. Ronan and I have talked about making something together for many years now. Something completely different from Covenant and VNV Nation, for our own pleasure and without having to conform to the usual styles of our respective 'main projects'.
We are both fascinated by what most people would consider to be noise and the process of using 'classic' (if this is the proper word for a technology that has existed for 30 years) synthesizers, noise generators and sequencers with all the limitations they impose on the user.

Anyway we talked and talked but nothing ever happened until Ronan called me a few months ago and asked if I would be interested in doing something very experimental, Bach-related during the Bach Festival in Leipzig.
My initial reaction was a bit sceptical as Bach is one of the most respected composers of all time and a rather complicated one as well. I would never try to fool anyone that I'm skilled enough to take on a live performance of his works. But as I thought about it I started thinking that this is exactly what music technology is for. Even if I can't physically perform these pieces I can still use my skill as a sound programmer to add an interesting new dimension to the music. And this was Ronan's conclusion as well. So I accepted and we decided to call the project 'Hz', short for 'Hertz' - the unit used for audio frequency.

So if everything turns out the way we planned it you are all welcome to Werk II in Leipzig to enjoy (or suffer, depending on your musical tastes ) our little concert together with a handful of other more or less well-known artists and projects. It will be different and, I hope, interesting.

A note of warning however: this is not going to be a hybrid of Covenant and VNV. Hz is just two geeks with laptops and a few keyboards paying (dis)respect to one of our favourite composers.

Sounds cool! If time and money would allow I would be there! But Leipzig is on the opposite side of Germany, from where I live.

Any chance that this project will be repeated in another city?

as a classically trained pianist i would KILL to be there for this!!! will there be any recordings made of this project or do i just have to be jealous of those of you who live in europe???

Hi fuzzy_logic, Leipzig ist zwar für unsere Verhältnisse ziehmlich nah aber es schein schon etwas besonderes zu sein, was sich da im Werk II abspielt. Ich denke mal das ich auch anwesend sein werde, sofern nicht mehr dazwischen kommt. Werde mich aber nochmal bei dir melden, bis dahin liebe Grüße in die Hauptstadt :perfekt:

wer furchtbare probleme beim zurechtkommen in L hat oder mal eben seine iso-matte bei mir auswerfen will... you're welcome.

ist auf jeden Fall zu weit weg. Schaffe ich leider nicht. Und ne Woche später bin ich dann ja in L. Ärgere mich aber schon, daß ich nicht hin kann

Danke für das Angebot, aber als Ex-Leipzigerin hab ich sowohl Ortskenntnisse als auch ne Schlafgelegenheit Aber wir sollten uns dort vor Ort mal treffen und ne Runde quatschen, oder?

das war ein lustiger abend:
insofern - es waren 4 "ensembles"
- 4 bands ? denke die wollten sich alle zusammen tuen

die erste - so rockig gemacht - und bach musik mit e-gitarre.. aber echt cool die lead git. hatte schnelle finger - klang gut :cool:

die zweite show - mit contrabass (?) geige, flöte und stimme von MilaMar
es klang sehr "alt" also "unrund"
ihre stimme war leicht fehl am platz, mäßig applaus
aber qualitativ schon gut...
naja. sie muß halt imme ihr eigenes publikum mit anschleppen zum klatschen

teil 3: In The Nursery
war sehr profi.
ITN haben nen schönen soundteppich ausgelegt.. keys und drums
dazu eine querflöte
die kam für meine begriffe ein wenig zu kurz
die samples waren unheimlich minimalistisch
von daher 40 min - gleicher sound

teil 4. die katastrophe...
- karastrophe ??
alle warten auf ronan harris und Mr. Montelius...
dann schleppen die bühnenleute so einen tapeziertisch auf die bühne
haufen laptop kram und ein paar soundmodule
egal. es geht los mit grünem laser hinter den 2 kerlen
nach 20 sek. knacksts - dann raaaatz. und schluß
Mr. VNV - sein laptop kackt ab
dann spielt montelius noch ne weile
voll irritiert
harris raucht erstmal eine.. sichtlich genervt
dann so halber sound... quasi daß was montelius beisteuert
aber er hat sozusagen nur das halbe thema im computer
dadurch klingts bescheutert
und der andere laptop ging garnicht mehr
naja. dann schaltet er ganz ab und läd noch was .. das klang n bissel wie covenant
aber bloß flächen... nix drums
wir schliefen noch 5 minuten
- hmm zum ausklingen oder wie ?
dann - winke winke - 'tschuldigung und tschüss
alles in allem hätte man für die 15 € auch schön Eis essen gehen können.
