Your hopes & dreams regarding a new Covenant project

Hi there!

As we all know our boys are busy recording new material for a future release...

And I'm curious - what would be your hopes and dreams regarding a new Covenant project?

Whatever comes to your mind, just post it here. No matter if it's with regard to the next studio album or the respective live presentation of it. No matter if it concerns the sound direction, the formats in which new outputs might be released, the single(s) release(s), potential remixers, the promotion, the artwork, whatever - your thoughts please! :)

I'm curious. 8)

Anything as long as it does not sound like Covenant. Cement is a good example of this.

What? The question was *about* Covenant, not the side projects, yo!

Oh, I read new Covenant project as new Covenant side project.

Sorry for being unclear - I meant new Covenant project as in new Covenant album + new Covenant single(s) + new Covenant (world) tour. The whole package, so to speak. ;)

my hopes and dreams:

1) more lovely cd packaging like the last three releases
2) a song that's sweeping and epic like "The Men"
3) a song that's minimalist like "Consumer"
4) a tour date in my hometown
5) daniel myer adding his personal touch and kicking ass as usual
6) pancakes

Pancakes have nothing to do with covenant. But they sound really good right now.

Yeah! :-]

The least few releases had a great design, I really hope that the next one will have something of the same great standard. But I'm sure it will. :)

And of course I hope for a cool vinyl release too!!

2) a song that's sweeping and epic like "The Men"

...sweeping and epic like the long version (live version) of The Men! ;)

Which brings me to my mind that I hope that the band will make the right decisions next time - The Men and Ritual Noise are two tracks where the album versions are imho not on par with the alternative versions released elsewhere, I'm afraid. The long version of The Men is superb, while the album version sounds somewhat incomplete. The Edit and Version S of Ritual Noise rock the house - so I was a little disappointed when I listened to the album version later. But that's minor mourning... ;)

3) a song that's minimalist like "Consumer"

We have many comments with "a song sounding like..." - I actually do not want Covenant to repeat themselves, or becoming formulaic. But then I'm sure that's not what anyone here meant.
I would vote for a "carrot and stick"-type of album! :D Give the masses the epic dance tracks which have made Covenant big in the clubs, and challenge people with really obscure stuff with other tracks. 8)

4) a tour date in my hometown

Yep, a tour date in your hometown, and a tour date in my hometown. ;) As a German resident I surely cannot complain about a lack of Covenant gigs, though.

5) daniel myer adding his personal touch and kicking ass as usual

This is a must!! Not because I wouldn't trust Eskil and Joakim to be able to produce a great album - they have nothing to prove in this department anymore! But after all these years Covenant can only benefit from the fresh air and the new perspectives an experienced new musician like Daniel will introduce into the sonic world of Covenant. The recent live shows featuring Daniel proved that he brings new elements to the sound, and a new level of excitement. I simply hope that this will translate to a new album. :)

I vote for free beers.

Niggels, thanks for your thoughtful commentaries to my post! 8)

I totally forgot about those alternate versions of "The Men" and "Ritual Noise"...I love those versions, and I have been meaning to pick up the Septic VI compilation that contains that version of "The Men" (which also features a superior version of Mind.In.A.Box's "Lament for Lost Dreams" btw...but that's for a whole 'nother topic). :)

Even if my hopes-and-dreams list isn't fulfilled, I have a feeling I will still be very surprised and delighted at the new project. A taste of what's in progress (ie "Come" demo that was on their myspace page some time ago) really got me amped up! And if the new album doesn't meet our expectations, I will buy you a beer and make me pancakes. That way, something on our list can be crossed off :D

You're such a clever woman! :D

And I also have a feeling that the new stuff will be quite exciting and up there with the band's very best, although in one way or other radically different in terms of sound and style. :D

And I hope that there will be a new little teaser at Covenant's Myspace site soon. :)

The Youtube clip of Bon Harris (Nitzer Ebb) working in the studio gave me the idea - I really would love to watch something similar from our boys!

After all it's an easy thing to do - just grab a camera, film something, and then post it on Youtube. The exposure of such a clip is potentially massive! Just make it more interesting than the recent Depeche Mode in the studio clips. ;)

RE: Your hopes & dreams regarding a new Covenant project

A female guest singer for a duett with Eskil, would be very interesting. 8)
I would prefer Elles de Graaf, you can find her vocals mainly on several trance projects.
Wait for the chorus and imagine Eskils voice as a duett, I am shure this would work.

This Track with her was a huge hit in Germany

Among other things, I'm hoping for a song that provides a similar energy as Babel does.

oh, and a bonus cd (part of limited digipak 2cd) containing duets with guest vocalists (old and/or new songs) :-]

First ones that come to my mind would be the singers of The Knife, IAMX, Diary of Dreams, Interlace, and - surprise! - Seabound

I think this goes for all artists:

Surprise me, it doesn´t matter what I expect or what I want. Be free, don´t repress what you have inside and create. I don´t know anything about your art, so I´m not the one supposed to tell you the way. No one is, this is your creation. Do whatever you wanna do and I´m sure the result will be a lot better.

:-]

My only hope is that I can find it here ;)
