DEMO OF THE MONTH
[October]

[english]
Along with the work on the new album the band would like to invite the fans to the creative process by sharing a demo every month. Obviously these are not the top-produced hit singles rather than outtakes and strange stuff we hope that fans will find interesting to listen to and sometimes maybe even enjoyable!
The first demo out is a late night live jam session in the studio with Eskil and Joakim from the Skyshaper sessions 2005. New stuff will follow as it is being produced.

E's voice does sound good. I am also really loving the bleeps...

(this sharing of demos is such a good idea!)

In their B-side style I think... Still I like it... I belive it would do just the way it is now, and I'm kinda interested what could grow out of this...

February's Demo

Another demo up for February on Covenant's MySpace. I saw this hadn't been posted here yet so I took the liberty of doing so. Sorry I can't translate it into German.

Eskil's blog entry for such:

"Dear friends,

Please find a new demo, this month introducing Daniel (!) and my photo diary from our shows in Spain before Christmas. I apologize for the late update, despite my robot aspiration I find myself more often than not with human flaws. Music does not always run like a clockwork orange.

Best,

Eskil

February 12"

Holley (me) says:
The photo diaries are always fun to meander through, and I made a comment to the extent of no worries, friends are not electric... :D

(great, now I'm going to get that song in my head...)

Daniel's blog for the Covenant MS:

"DEMO OF THE MONTH
February 2008: "Broadway"

Hello there.
I guess this will be my official introduction to the band. It's been a while, almost 12 months, that I have played with the guys and two months ago I wrote the track you can hear as the demo of the month.
I was in Seattle and went looking for some food. It was a wonderful day and I listened to some Covenant tracks on my iPod to get inspiration. Well, I finally found a Thai place that served a nice soup and when I left I set my iPod on random play. Right after "Pulse" a track from the band Sleeparchive came up and I had a feeling that this would do very well with Eskil's vocals.
So I went back to the hotel and started to work on a track. As a working title I used "Broadway" because that was the street, where I had my little enlightenment. Enjoy!!

Daniel, Leipzig, Feb 2, 2008"

**************************

Holley says:
REALLY liking this track. I am interested in hearing the final result. I think it would be nice if E's vocals are sharper and more defined but I don't know if the lack of that is an inherent part of being a demo... and the drums are a bit heavy at 1:20 or so, but that didn't bother me too much as I love percussion and hey, it's a demo. As I said, looking forward to hearing the final result!

Covenant MySpace, click on the last track: "Broadway".

I really love the new demo, too. Reminds me of a mellow U.N.K.L.E track.

WOW.

For a mere demo, it's quite a sophisticated piece!

Love hearing the Myer influence too.

Regarding the current demo of the months, "Come19" - did the guys upload a new version at Myspace? ?(

I'm re-listening to it (and I can only listen to it at Myspace, obviously ;) ) and either memory is playing tricks on me or the current version is a little different.

Well, I'm sure my memory is simply failing me :D but it'd be nice if anyone would confirm this. ;)

Come is really cool, and after it's been performed live a couple of times it might become one of the "main tracks" of the forthcoming album. However, it's a great song anyway, best demo of the month so far imo.

I think if you re-upload a song the total plays reset to zero! ;)
Well, and I can't hear a difference... Think it's the same and still great! :-]

It's still the same version. Afaik there is only one rendered version anyway, unless Eskil is hiding something from me. ;)

I really really hope it makes the final cut. To me, it's sort of a sequel to Flux. (Wha? Hold on a sec, I'll explain)

When I first heard Flux, I had this very powerful mental image of this infinite universe struggling to outwit entropy, but its own gravity becomes too great and it pulls itself into a Big Crunch.

And with Come, I had the total opposite: a new universe, born out of the 'ashes' of the old. The first half of the song is just the Universe itself, coasting along, doing its thing, and when the vocals kick in, it's signifying the dawn of man. His concepts (come heaven, come shadows etc) could signify what's happening right now: so many ideas, old and new, it's not hard to get overwhelmed by them.

So, yeah, that's just my way of viewing it. Anyone else got any stories of their own they want to add? ;)

Okay, so I was just hearing things. ;) It was a while since I listened to the demo the last (not surfing too much at myspcace currently) and I got to hear the live version since then - maybe that's why I thought it was a new version at myspace?

That is a really fantastic way of looking at the song(s)! 8o

"Flux" is my absolute favorite song by them, and your tie-in with "Come" has now got me looking at in a new way.
