Hi there!

Not much going on here, right?

I just thought to start a new thread to get things going again....and yes, this is thread that´s gonna make Eskil, Joakim and Clas burst out in tears and leave them in grief and despair....ehm, sort of.

I guess we all love the majority of Covenant´s music (otherwise we wouldn´t even bother coming here, would we? ) but I guess everyone also has one or two tracks which he/she is not too fond of. Or something you can´t stand anymore. Or a song you deeply, deepely despise.... :schimpf:

Which are the Covenant songs you do not like (or even actually hate)?

Uhm, ehm...here I go:

No Man´s Land: When I first listened to United States Of Mind, this was one out of two songs (the other being One World One Sky) where I thought "WTF? What the hell is that?". While One World One Sky really was a grower for me (love it live!), No Man´s Land never did anything for me. Don´t know why - is it just the bassdrum which reminds me a touch to much of Underworld´s Born Slippy? However, at shows it seems to be a fan favourite. For me a nice opportunity to take a break after all the jumping around.

We Stand Alone: Again a song that seems to be a fan favourite at Covenant´s concerts. Actually I like it live but whenever I listen to Northern Light at home this is the track I tend to skip. For me it follows too much the "Future Pop" route - a rude person may say it´s Covenant´s VNV Nation track. The only thing I love about this song is the jazzy piano that comes in at the end which gives the song a tongue-in-cheek feel (no idea if this was the boys intention, though).

Dreams Of A Cryotank: Yes, I know that this is an album and not a single song. Many EBM old-schoolers still hold this album dearest, complaining that Covenant has changed too much since then. *sniffsniffsniff* One half of DOAC gives you indeed a hint at the genius that was to come after it. Great songwriting, great grooves, cool sounds and thoughtful lyrics. The other half is utter bullocks. C´mon guys, do you really think this is Covenant´s best??? It´s quite good for a debut and it holds a few early gems, so far so good. But it´s nothing compared to the fully displayed glory on Sequencer, Europa, USOM and Northern Light!

Oh, I just noticed that Sequencer and Europa are the two albums where I can not pick out a single song to pluck it off and have a go at. Okay, the album version of Figurehead is slightly too long and also prefer the club version because of the howling vocals in the last part, but this is really really a minor gripe.

I also noticed that I sometimes don´t like Covenant´s singles at first but come to love them later. This happened with Tour De Force, Der Leiermann, Call The Ships To Port, and even Dead Stars. But after a while these songs really grew on me and now I dig them all. The only single I seemed to love from the start is Final Man, and I still do. :cool:

C´mon, what are your "least favourites"?

Oh, I really expected the first post to be like "Niggels, you´re fucking nuts!"

When I first listened to We Want Revolution I thought that this track should have been a bit faster, edgier, punchier. Especially with the topic it has. I guess most bands would make a song which is called "We Want Revolution" the fastest and most aggressive of the album. But somehow its the little twist of the song that its sounds rather groovy, relaxed and indeed sexy.
But if you don´t like it that´s okay for me. Sometimes you just don´t like something and it´s hard to put your finger on why you don´t.

Of course I don´t hate any Covenant songs too but there are always be one or two least favourite songs with *any* band.
