@ Marci: I get that a lot, even with a wordless shirt (doesn't help that I have lots there). I once caught a guy staring at my chest, and when he saw that I did, he tried to make some lame excuse about him trying to read my shirt, when, in fact, there were no words on it. :/. Yeah.

Color me late on the uptake, but is that a PiL cover?

(Wolfsheim- Once in a Lifetime)

It sure is. One of many, many, many ... but that one is my fave cover of that particular track. Second fave of that track is the techno remix by Phrank and then followed by the very popular dance version by Crispin J. Glover. :D

(Fedde Le Grande - Put Your Hands Up for Detroit)

re: TiNaLS- oh cool! I'll have to look for that then. I love This Is What You Want, This Is What You Get... I think it's my second favorite after Flowers of Romance, which in my humble opinion is **amazing ** and one of my all-time favorite recordings by anyone, ever...

...Crispin Glover. Hee. :-]

(Brian Eno- On Some Faraway Beach)

I hear you, I just don't love PiL anymore after a certain someone overplayed them around me. Kind of like Bob Marley, dated someone obssessed with him and I can't manage being in a rasta bar/club more than a few minutes. I probably heard every "obscure" recording ever found on a daily basis for a span of three years.

But yeah, loved them once and remember the good times. ;)

Yes right across my boobs, but I don't have much.

Eeeek. I should never get that shirt! Being a well endowed woman I tend to make remarks when people are rude, since it's not just men. I'd probably say, "Yes, I've named them."

You should wear it next time you're at Neo! ;)

As a genre I really really do not like reggae at all. I've tried. I've really made an effort. I just can't do it. Really don't like to dismiss an entire genre outright but elements that are intrinsic to that style of music just... rub me the wrong way. Not that it's *bad* music, it isn't; some of it is brilliant in fact and I can recognize that- it just isn't what I aesthetically like at all.

Quite frankly the rhythm of reggae makes me feel kind of seasick. All that rocking back and forth.

The only song I've been able to like to any degree is Ku Klux Klan by Steel Pulse. I'm ~entirely~ convinced it's due to the fact that it's a paired association thing... it's the song right before Numan's Down in the Park on the Urgh A Music War video which I saw when I was very young and impressionable...

...I'm my own lab rat! :D

@ilex011 - Interesting that reggae makes you seasick! There could be a connection with water or boat rides that you've made? I can stand it and enjoy it but I don't love it. An old fave of mine is Buju Banton's Misty Days. One reggae place here use to offer a buffet table Friday nights full of African cuisines (including our fave Ethiopian) but after a drunk guy lit my coat on fire with a cig I just haven't felt the same. I'm a sucker for steel drums though.

That's exactly how I feel about modern rap so I understand. It's hard for me to swallow a lot of the recycled sounds and samples and, also with quite a bit of Hip Hop and R&B, the fact that most artists cannot complete unique tracks without massive amount of collaborators, guest vocalists, etc. to essentially borrow a sound or style from. It's got the "too many ingredients in one pot" thing going on in my opinion. Though when I do hear something unique, or fresh spin on something familiar, I really take notice.

Oh well in a manner of speaking anyway. Something about the cadence makes me feel uneasy, in a way that's similar to the feeling of motion sickness. Messes with my sense of equilibrium. Though I know many people for whom it's the opposite. Sounds comforting to them. But then I listen to stuff like Subterfugue to unwind so to each their own! :D

Mmmm... not sure. I really love the water. Love small boats, but terrified of ocean liners. In theory anyway being I haven't been on one. Confront that fear!
*laughs nervously, heh heh*
I do get motion sickness easily in the car though, if I'm not driving.

Don't read into that! ;)

Can't stand Mtv style rap and hiphop. What you mention are some reasons why. Also don't like the posturing and everything that goes along with that. I don't want to launch into a rant so I'll be succinct with this.

Having said that, I looooove intelligent/underground/experimental rap and hiphop. I saw Jurassic 5 some years ago and really enjoyed it. Concrete Schoolyard and Lesson 6: The Lecture are amazing. Especially the latter, if you tend to like deft sampling and turntablism. And some of the lines in Concrete Schoolyard are quite clever and make me happy.

Speaking of turntablism, Kid Koala came here a few months ago and I missed it!! Arrghh! :mauer:

(And a little more obscurely with rap, who can't love Kool Keith- with lyrics like "Now my helmet's on, you can't tell me I'm not in space!" Brilliance. :perfekt:

Wow- I used a lot of emoticons in this post...

See, I didn't get to sleep until 0900 and I had to be back up for a meeting at noon so I watched the sun rise in our lovely city too... why did I even leave the library? I should have just stayed there!
