Primer on non-Warp 90's electronic music

Excellent list! I'm surprised to find that I own most of it. Plastikman and Robert Hood in particular inspired me a lot. Skinny Puppy is too obvious to comment on even if I think "Last Rights" was the defining moment of the band in my world. The amazing track "Download" from that album still sends shivers down my spine. I would have wished for a less American perspective though, since a lot of interesting stuff was made in Europe. Daft Punk, anyone? !K7 Records in Germany? Ant-Zen? Cold Meat Ind...

Modern Ruin

To all of you who wonder about the "missing songs". An album is not a collection of potential hits. An album is a personality and to be interesting a personality needs complexity and some surprising characteristics. That's why "Modern Ruin" is the way it is and for various reasons the tracks we played live didn't fit in. Believe me, it was not an easy task to decide what to keep and what to leave aside. That doesn't mean that the songs you feel are missing are dead and buried. They will most lik...

Your hopes & dreams regarding a new Covenant project

Zitat Originally posted by LePand Is there anyone who is not a geek in this forum? I hope not! Geeks are huge factors of the fundamental force that keeps the world spinning. Even though we don't (usually) make allegorical references to fringe maths, Covenant is securely founded on geekiness. Eskil and I once got drunk while "enjoying" geek punk rock at the Hilbert Café (the social roaming grounds at the Physics Department in Lund). I hope that counts for something? I'm not sure that the I...

Covenant live & forum meeting @ Amphi July 18th/19th Cologne

Zitat Originally posted by Daniel Myer I just want to say, that I had a good time, on and off-stage. I love my swedish friends And your Swedish friends love you. Right now I'm off to the Römisch Germanisch Museum (after being bitterly disappointed to find out it was closed yesterday, my 4:th attempt to go there) expecting to finally get to see the Dionysos Mosaic and other priceless treasures of Köln's amazing history. Our show was almost flawless from a technical point of view, but I must admi...

Alva Noto - Xerrox Vol. 2

Zitat Originally posted by Daniel Myer buy and and send a copy to me!! Whoa! Piracy? Are you MAD!?!?! We'll both be sued and nailed to a Bulletin Board for all eternity to serve as an example of Really Bad Behaviour. Let's do that IRL so no one can track our despicable behaviour.

RE: Alva Noto - Xerrox Vol. 2

Strange. Daniel and I had a nice discussion about Alva Noto while sightseeing Barcelona last Sunday (the day before your post). Is this your review? It makes me want to buy it immediately! :perfekt:

Questionnaire South Africa

A message from South Africa: "Covenant were due to play in South Africa, but ineffective marketing led to a weak presales response. In order to avoid the disappointment of this happening again, independent promoters have decided to organise a new concert. They need your help to gauge the expected South African response, so please, take a few minutes to fill in their questionnaire, posted at this link and a Covenant gig in South Africa may soon be a reality."

Happy Birthday planet-popp!

Huge and very very loud Happy Birthday hoorays for Alex, the one and only, our trusted friend and tireless accomplice from Autobahn to Route 66 and beyond. If I had a box of Absolut I'd send it over right away.

Theremin (das Instrument an sich)

Here is a nice video of a performance and a little lecture on the instrument and how to play it by the contemporary young virtuoso Pamelia Kurstin, the modern day Clara Rockmore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-ywH1Vj8_U&feature=related (remember: if it sounds slightly weird/out-of-tune sometimes, wait till you get a chance to play one yourself and find out how incredibly difficult it is!)

Amphi Festival 2008

Either you have shock-resistant hands (hmm, you do work in a lab, perhaps you had a Barry Allen-type accident that made you impervious to electricity?) or the batteries were weak. It bloody hurts, that evil contraption! Zitat Originally posted by ilex011 Not nasty, a wonderful little toy! I was told about the shocks ahead of time though- which kind of takes the terrorizing part out of it... if I end up getting one, I won't tell about that part to my friends.

Amphi Festival 2008

It's one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Gasworks-Inc-Light…e/dp/B0019VWSC2 A nasty little toy that Eskil carries around and terrorize anyone foolish enough to try it with. A word of caution: do NOT try it with wet hands.

Amphi Festival 2008

A little video by the Swedish parody band "Tyskarna Från Lund" (The Germans from Lund). It's a classic in some circles and suddenly it seems sort of appropriate again. Global Fussball OK To quote my doctor: "Old men like you shouldn't play football". :nein: Oh, and don't worry if the lyrics make no sense. They don't.

Covenant-Forum Meeting @ Amphi-Festival

@ ilex011: that sounds great. So can we consider the Geographically Challenged Society responsible for putting the liquid in Amphi? :-] (I know that that smiley means something else but I like the way it nods in an afrimative way)

Covenant-Forum Meeting @ Amphi-Festival

Another important issue: Who provides the beers? Or drinks in general, including alcohol-free stuff for the less wild at heart. I guess we (Covenant) can probably get a discount from the festival, but it makes more sense to pool a couple of euros each and get stuff from a supermarket. This looks like a job for... Niggels!! I'm sure we can arrange for trays with ice and cups and other accessories.

RE: favorite own songs?

No, it's not a silly question. But it's a difficult one. Daniel and Eskil will have to put in comments if they disagree even though I believe that they don't. Personally I don't have any specific favourite. We try to be very restrictive with our material so that we only release the songs that we think are good enough to stand the test of time. We also try to make music in different styles even if it always (more or less) sounds like Covenant. I guess you could say that I listen to music in a "ut...
