Hi!
Side-line.com reports that our Swedish boys would have almost supported Depeche Mode on their forthcoming European tour.
Close, but no cigar. That is what can be said about Covenant missing out on being the official support act for Depeche Mode on their current tour. The news got revealed by Joakim Montelius during an interview with Side-Line magazine which will be published as titelstory in the next January 2006 issue of Side-Line, number 54. Asked about Fletcher possibly attending the next tour where Client will act as support Joakim had this to add: "I know that he and Martin Gore once gave our single 'Stalker' a very nasty review in national Swedish television. Ouch, that hurt! But we did get an invitation from Depeche Mode to be the support band for them on their current tour, so I assume that they are aware of our music and probably changed their minds about it as well... Or maybe they didn’t, as Franz Ferdinand got the support slot instead." The release date of the first new Covenant single EP, "Ritual Noise", has been set for January 20 and will be limited to just 5000 copies. Order it now before it is too late.
I don't know how much truth is in it, especially as side-line gets the Franz Ferdinand support thing a bit wrong, to start with. Franz Ferdinand are going to perform at the Rock Am Ring/Rock Im Park festivals in Germany, just as Depeche Mode (and approx. 100 other bands). Nothing you can call a "support slot", right? FF will also be special guests at the DM gigs in tel Aviv and (I think) in Greece but still that doesn't look like a "proper" support slot.
Anyway, would have been great to see our boys opening for DM. Actually it would have been a dream coming true as DM and Covenant are my two favourite bands.
