Seattle and Portland shows

We arrived at the El Carazon at 8:15 and there was already a long line-up. The locals seemed to know that the alcohol area only had limited capacity. This certainly seemed to help "lubricate" the crowd as when Rotersand came on it was electric! I don't think I've ever seen a support band get so much support! Rotersand even did an encore.

I took a breather when IR came on and watched their set from one of the video monitors in the bar.

Covenant played a great set and it was awesome to see them in such a small venue. One of the benefits of seeing them in North America I guess. I think Rotersand stole the show that night though...

In Portland Rotersand had problems with the sound. The right speaker (facing the band) sounded so bad that I thought they'd blown it! Anyway, they still put on a good show and the Portland crowd supported them well.

Covenant were amazing! I think the slightly bigger/conventional floor area and venue suited them better. As always Eskil's voice was superb. One of the few singers who sounds better live than on record. I'm not sure I've heard a better live singer. Covenant stole the show back that night :-)

What I found really interesting was the fact that both crowds responded better to newer songs than older songs. For example, Stalker did go down well, but tracks like Call The Ships To Port had the crowd completely rocking! This is a very good sign for the band. Tracks from the new album sounded great. Yeah, Brave New World is poppy, but it's still a good song. Just don't make all the tracks on the next album sound like it though, ok? ;-)

RE: Seattle and Portland shows

Thank you for posting other shows for me. I am a single mom, and I am always short on money. I have to agree that Eskil has a much better live voice. I don't think that Rotersand had a very good show in Chicago. Covenant won that night.

RE: Seattle and Portland shows

I totally enjoyed the Portland show. It was sooooo much better than the last show at the Paris a few years ago. Although, And One was at that show, which made it all better. It was a little strange to see them on the same stage that my band headlined on a few months ago.

I also was impressed with Rotersand. I had no idea that they could put on such a great show. I was standing right under that blown right speaker for a lot of the set, which was horrible. Once I got away from that stupid thing, it was all better.

Covenant, put on a very solid performance as always. I was happy that they played Dead Stars. As noted, Eskil's voice was amazing. I would like to know what, if any, EQ and effects are used on his voice. It seemed that his voice was able to cut through extoardinarily well. And yes, I know that it is also because he has a powerful voice. But it seems like no matter how good you are, especially at that venue, the vocals get lost in the mix. Does anyone know what gear they use live?

That would be a nice question for our Q&A/Question Of The Week section! ;)

RE: Seattle and Portland shows

Wow, thanks for the information!

What about EQ? And special treatment there? (i.e. notch or bell curve on or around certain frequencies)

What settings on the dbx's? Were you using the compressor or enhancer heavily?

Thanks!
