LA Date - Recommended hotels/hostels?

This could be an awesome weekend in LA.

Ok, guys/gals - please help me out. I want to fly down from Vancouver/Canada on the Friday, but I need a cheap/good hotel somewhere in the vicinity of the venue. A decent hostel is also fine. Any recommendations?

RE: LA Date - Recommended hotels/hostels?

I was compiling a rideshare/roomshare travel info website, but I really don't think I can finish it all now since I just got a ton of work to do. Here is my research for LA. Everything is based on being very short walking distance (ie, LA Walking Distance) from the venue. I don't know if you'll be renting a car or what, but if so, there are so many more options. Refer to this google map for more info. I am assuming you need 4 nights stay, and will check in on Friday, and out on Tuesday.

Best/Cheapest/Nicest: Orange Drive Manor Hollywood Hostel
Hostel/Guest House.
Location: Around the corner (.1 mi)
Rates: Dorms $22 to $28
Private Singles $48 to $58
Private Double $52 to $64
Private Rooms for Groups (3-6 persons) $22-$28 per person
Good Reviews.

Hollywood Celebrity Hotel (hotels.com)
2 stars / $119 night / Location: .2 mi (2 blocks away on Orchid)
"Sketchy but cheap"
Citysearch review | Travelocity review

Liberty Hotel
1.5 stars / Location: .2 mi (two blocks away) on Orchid.
Website says 75/85/95 (single/double/triple) but Hotels.com says $106/night for your dates.
Some mixed reviews from patrons.

Highland Gardens Hotel
$104/night / 2 stars / Location: .2 mi (1 block north)
Famous as the site of Janis Joplin's overdose. Mixed reviews from patrons. Good review from Citysearch

Hollywood Orchid Suites
$119/night / Location: .2 mi (two blocks away) on Orchid.
Apparently, not a discounted property.

Hollywood Seven Star Motel (tripadvisor.com)
Location: .3 mi. Down Hollywood Blvd and up La Brea
~65/night? Probably sketchy.

Hollywood La Brea Motel
7110 Hollywood Blvd.
Hollywood, CA 90046
(323) 876-8000
Location: .2 mi. Down Hollywood Blvd at La Brea
(can't find any info, call and see if it still exists. rates should be around $70ish i think)

Hollywood Hills Hotel
Apt style hotel. Studio starts at $159/night. Close, but up a hill. Registration is at the nearby Magic Castle Hotel.

If you want to splurge: A few nice places in the 'hood are the Hollywood Roosevelt ($185/night) and the Magic Castle Hotel (suites) ($150/night at internethotels.com only. You can look them up on hotels.com or travelocity.com and see where you can get the best rates (that goes for all of these hotels). Usually, if you book airfare through travelocity you can get a discount on the hotel also, and if you book through expedia, you get hotels.com rates, but with an additional discount also sometimes.

There is a Motel 6 in Hollywood - I am not sure where the club is that Covenant is playing, but you might check into staying there... You ought to come to the SF date!!! That's where I'll be!!!

RE: LA Date - Recommended hotels/hostels?

Thanks for the great info erichazann! I also found this site to be a good resource:
http://www.orbitz.com/

Anyway, I can't get the time off work to fly to LA to see Covenant/Rotersand. I was hoping to also see VNV Nation on the Friday. Oh, well some other time...

On a positive note, it looks like I can get Friday 13th(!) off work, so I'm going to drive down from Vancouver after work to go and see Covenant in Seattle on the Thursday and then in Portland on the Friday. Should be a great road trip!

RE: LA Date - Recommended hotels/hostels?

I was wondering why you were not considering driving to Seattle :) But I totally forgot about VNV the same weekend down in LA.

Orbitz is good for flights, but IME, they dont have many good hotel deals like travelocity and expedia (which is really just a hotels.com partner or something).

Hopefully, someone else can use the info if they are travelling to LA for the show.

my friends and I are doing the VNV in LA Covenant in SF weekend!!! Can't wait! 4 of my favorite bands (counting the openers for Covenant) in three days... it doesn't get much better than this!
