The bottom line: There are no cons! :) Go, boys, go! :D

And not forgetting that it will be the 20th Anniversary of Covenant next Friday - what better impetus could you ask for to produce a 'Best of Compilation'.

Yes, we do consider something like that. We also have some previously unreleased test versions of popular songs and some really obscure stuff that may be interesting to hear. Right now that project has been put on hold in favour of the Skyshaper campaign and I can't tell when it's going to happen. But it will, sooner or later.

I am intrigued by Joakim's indication that any compilation could include unreleased test versions of some of the more popular songs, and obscure stuff. This would persuade even the most die hard fan, who maybe does have all the releases, to purchase the compilation too - as there would be something new for everyone!!!

I look forward to see what form, and more importantly what songs/versions make the cut!!!

Niggels. I agree, but I think a Best Of and a rarities/remixes are two different beasts.

I would prefer to see the rarities comp be a special collectors box with some extra shiny goodies. (Thomas uses the word "gimmicks" in reference to the extras that came with the Synergy box, but I think that makes it sound insincere.) I was looking at the :w: Evokebox and was like "shit, if Covenant did something like this, I would be all over it like white on rice." But I think the increased price of a special box would scare off the new/casual listener, and a Best Of comp would be better suited to them.

As for me, I'd appreciate the rare one. I'm not able to buy everything which can be found, but nevertheless I'd like to have a complete collection....

I don't think so. You could easily have a double CD (which it should be anyway) with a greatest hits/singles collection on disc 1 and remixes & rarities on disc 2.

Of course you could also do a standard edition which just one CD (the hits) and a "limited" edition with the bonus CD with all the rarities and stuff.

"I don't think so. You could easily have a double CD (which it should be anyway) with a greatest hits/singles collection on disc 1 and remixes & rarities on disc 2"

dito.

"Of course you could also do a standard edition which just one CD (the hits) and a "limited" edition with the bonus CD with all the rarities and stuff."

bingo.

But I don´t think that sth. like that will be released.
I guess if there´ll be anything at all it´s going to be a standard edition with 1 CD.

These days almost all the new album releases have a "limited" edition with bonus stuff! So why should the label decide against this little marketing trick? Especially as a best of compilation imho demands something which makes old fans buy it.

A best of with a limited edition which features some rare and unreleased stuff on another disc really makes sense to me.

Of course I know you could do a double CD.

I meant, if based on your reasoning that a new fan would gravitate towards the Best Of comp as an intro to Covenant, then it would have to be inexpensive enough for a first-timer to jump on it... and not be a collectors box.

I think the rarities would already take up 2 discs. Based on the list posted, plus the missing stuff (that cd was probably made contemporary with USOM), and most recent stuff too. And hopefully, some unheard stuffs from the vaults... that is easily 2 discs. (You could get rid of some of those Dead Stars remixes :) tho.) And add the Go Film Hard Mix (that is one of my faves! :) )

That is what I would prefer.

When I say collectors box, I don't mean just limited with an extra song or two. I mean the extra shit :) Covenant doesn't seem to be too big on merchandise.. I know it's all about the music, but I like the extra goodies. :) Slap me and call me a commercialist, I like shiny stuff.

Maybe it could be somehow rolled up with the DVD release.

Okay, so all we need is

1. A Standard One-CD issue with all the greatest hits (single versions, not album version, please!) for all the casual buyers and people who'd like to be introduced to Covenant's world without buying the complete backcatalogue.

2. A Limited Double-Disc Edition with the first disc being the same as the standard edition and a bonus disc which features some rarities, single b-sides and some remixes.

3. A Collector's Deluxe Box with the Limited Double-Disc Edition of the album in a costly and luxuriously designed box, including an extra booklet, some small stickers, a huge sticker for your car, a giant poster, a badge, an exclusive t-shirt (box should be available with shirts in different sizes), a vinyl 7" with "Norman Bates"/"Replicant (demo version)", another bonus disc "Live in Lund 12/14/1996" plus in each box a knob, switch or chip from an old analogue synthesizer which the band doesn't need anymore so that they can pick it to pieces for this purpose.

:D ;)

That's a great idea!
But - what do you think - should this box cost?? ?(
It seems to be really expensive and (of course) hugh with all this stuff included!
Anyway I like the idea (especially with "a knob, switch or chip from an old analogue synthesizer"

I know you are being facetious Niggles :p

I could do without the poster -- maybe postcards instead, and the knob would have to be manufactured into some sort of keyring or something ;p

I'm not sure how the T-shirt issue was handled in the :w: evokebox. I've never seen the shirt, but I think I read it was sleeveless, so I assume it's a unisex/one size tank top. Maybe ixnay the shirt too...

Fantastic! Whatever it is going to cost, I would get one right away, if I could... :perfekt:

I actually don't think that such a box will ever come true. I was exaggerating a bit, as Erichazann so nicely pointed out. ;)

After all, such a box would be way too expensive to produce, I doubt that sales would cover the expenses. Guess the label would say simply no! :nein:

By the way, the idea with the knob of a piece of gear was borrowed from the Imminent Starvation boxes - which actually did have a little piece from a synth in each copy!

RE: hyperBOX

Covenant should create a really special box set.

It can be just be limited edition, or simply ordered for those who are interested. Or directly to us the beloved Covenant fans!!

Im amused how poeple still live under a rock and are not aware of great bands like Covenant.

We should each tell a friend about Covenant and they have to spread the word and tell their friends...and then their friends would have to tell their friends..and then those friends would have to tell their other friends...and so on.

You missed my point. Let me do this again:

Ok so we're aware that 3 quarters of the world dont have a clue who Covenant is. And they dont know what they're missing. Or maybe they like some of their songs and they just dont know who they are.

Lets say Covenant made a nice little box set. It would only be obtainable ONLINE or via mail or whatever. Simply for those who are interested.

Which would be all of us.
