Ugh, I am trying to work out the lyrics for Xrds also... This is what I have so far, can someone lend a hand? :(

(You a dream was held)?
That night
You stopped my heart
You kept me gasping
For breath

There was something there
That day
(Who dodged my traps
And kept my doubts at bay)?
For you

My way just isn't yours
This is not your crossroads
(Gave/geared) my soul to someone else
I sold my soul for no one else

Lyrics

What about the lyrics of the Island? I am not motivated enough to write it down.
"I myself am pursueing the same instinctive course as the veriest human animal you can think of - I am however young, starring at particles of light in the midst of great darkness." (John Keats)

here they are:

'the island'

time will heal your wounds, she said
as she took me by the hand
soon there will be rain, she said
as i followed her inside
this house will be an island, she said
as she held me in her arms
we lit a candle for the sailors
as the water rose outside

Thomson,

Thanks for posting the lyrics for XRDS. That first line of the first verse always got me. I never really could understand the third and the fourth lines of the second verse (Who dodged my traps/And kept my dogs at bay), but what you wrote makes sense to me.

The only thing I can add is "My way just isn't yours." That's how it sounds to me. Also, for some reason, I thought Eskil was saying, "Give my sword to someone else." hehe I was way off on that one.

Not really that easy I'm afraid, in fact I didn't even find Covenant there... and certainly not the lyrics for "the island"...

I do not think anything in parentheses is entirely correct, it is a work in progress. :) But "My way just isn't yours" makes sense since Eskil tends to not pronounce 'j' as 'jay', but more as 'yuh'.

But most of the rest of what I have just doesn't make sense... "You a dream was held"? Ugh.

Yeah youre right. I guess they dont look very much into our kind of music. But one time I was looking for the lyrics of the VNV song called Saviour Vox and they did have it.

XRDS Lyrics - My Thoughts so Far!!

You Had Demons Help
That Night
You Stopped My Heart
You Kept Me Gasping
For Breath

There Was Something There
That Night
Who Dodged My Traps
Who Kept My Dogs At Bay
For You

My Way Just Isn't Yours
This Is Not Your CrossRoads
Gave My Soul To Someone Else
I Sold Myself And No One Else

I have no doubt that there are mistakes in there - and probably a few - so if anyone can help correct me that would be wonderful.
This is the only track that I really cannot decipher all the lyrics on - how frustrating!!!!!

Thomson,

That's true about Eskil's pronunciation of "j" in just. It's like he pronounces the "j" the German/Swedish way with it being a "y" sound, or as you mentioned, he says it with a "yuh" sound. In Happy Man, it sounds like he says, "No, I yust want my fun." Of course, he's saying "just" as it is written in the lyric booklet for the album.

cyberdreamsgirl,

I think that you may have nailed that first line. Thomson and I have had trouble figuring out what he says in that first line. Everything else looks great as well. With Thomson's and your help, I finally know what everything Eskil is saying now. Thanks!

I think it's a reference to his life as a travelling musician, which is quite different to a "normal" life.

This is correct, but only to a certain extent. It's more about feeling like a gypsy as in being someone who lives in "normal" society without taking active part in it. The nomadic aspect is important, but this sense of standing on the outside, looking in, is what I really meant. I had a brief obsession with gypsies there for a while. A result of reading too much Leonard Cohen while listening to flamenco, living in Spain. As someone noted, the gypsy community in Barcelona is small. But they sure make a lot of noise (in a nice way, if you ask me) if you happen to be where they hang out.

Thanks for explaining, mate. :)

Yes, I thought about the aspect of standing outside of "normal" society too when I wrote the posting. The gypsy reference implies that very much as well, not only the aspect of travelling and leading the nomadic life of a gypsy (or a touring musician ;) )
