sideline.com interview

found this on www.side-line.com so i thought i would share it here!!!

In a chat with Side-Line, Joakim Montelius from Covenant has commented on the news in Release Magazine that Covenant wants to make the definite EBM album: "It was actually something of a provocation, half joke, half serious. But I do think that a lot of interesting reinterpretations of classic EBM has surfaced the last few years: Terence Fixmer, Thomas P Heckman, Sven Vath, DJ Hell and also scene bands. And in good Covenant tradition we have our ears deep in this sound, probing and scanning, picking up ideas that we can use to evolve our own special sound. Of course we have our ears elsewhere at the same time and we won't make an EBM album as such, but we will definitely use this new style and aesthetics as an ingredient in our big soup of influences (laughs)." But as far as the new sound Montelius says: "At this stage we are just producing songs; melodies and lyrics. Those will be evaluated, kept or discarded. Then the survivors will be produced and that's where the sound and mood comes in." As far as the fact that only one song has been recorded so far, his comment is: "Well. It's not moving fast..." Nevertheless since the last album Covenant have recorded around 30 demos. As far as a deadline is concerned, Joakim is clear "the deadline isn't absolute, but that's our aim". Hopefull included on the next album will be "The Island" track from last year's ElectriXmas festival CD: "If we keep it it will be converted to a 'real' song with complete lyrics and a less 'experimental' structure. The soundscape and atmosphere will probably remain as it is though. We really like the noise." When Side-Line asks about the budget the band is now working on, the answer is quite honest: "The budget is obviously nowhere near the one we had the last time (editor's note: with Ka2). But it actually feels like a kind of freedom and a challenge. We will probably produce the main part ourselves. We'll see what happens later on as we proceed. We learned a lot about production techniques while working on 'Northern Light' and we will put that know-how to good use, but in our own personal way. I look very much forward to it!" More news as we get it.
