I was hoping for a really good dance remix of BNW, and was dissapointed at first also. I like the album version the best, but the remixes are growing on me.

I totally disagree about VNV tho. They can still headline festivals and their Das Bunker show sold out 900 tickets in weeks. VNV never played arenas or huge concert halls on tour.. they have not been reduced to little night clubs. There are the clubs they (and everyone else in the genre) play on tour, then there are the huge festivals. It's totally two different things.

You see Covenant headline festivals in odd places now.. probably because they want to do different things.. play in different places.. not just constantly headline the same German mega festivals.

I was also a little miffed that the American version did not include the DVD trailer.

Look where that got VNV Nation..!?!? ( Matter and Form) VNV Nation are now playing Little Night Clubs to make a living.. far cry from the festivals they headlined..

Now this BNW single is sounding bland and lifeless.. I was bored of it .. I had to put on the album version to remember how good the song really was before it got POP MUSZAKED to death ..

I hope they get back on form for the next single and give us the POWER they are famous for ...

Sorry but this is way too paranoid Grommit! Have the singles ever reflected the real musical standard or progression of Covenant For me the band has progressed and expanded their sound from the first album onwards! No other electro act can cope with their standards in my opinion. The singles? Who cares for club mixes, black-door tribal fuzzy-tone, client-remixes or else I few of those versions might have been okay over the years but they rarely represented the musical depth of the album versions and thus never indicated a new direction the band would eventually take. "The Ritual Noise" Single was, due to the song's character, full with more or less interesting mixes, "Brave New World" has a more , let's put it "pop-like" appeal which resulted in mixes that focused less on a dance compability but a pop song approach, so what???? Why do you consequently relate a Covenant SINGLE to an ALBUM of VNV Nation?? Hilarious!! The stuff on the album is "the real thing" and the boys have delivered nothing but quality so far. I'm sure they haven't even reached their climax yet and their sense of perfection will spur them on to new mindboggling musical heights

Well, I agree with everything you've said here. In fact, I was going to comment with pretty much the same, so thank you for saving me internet cafe time, heh heh!

BNW is probably my least favorite track from Skyshaper so it doesn't bother me too much if the remixes are less than stellar. If they ever botch The Men or 20Hz however, I think I shall take it as a personal affront, ha ha!

I bought the single today, the new mixes surprised me. Was slightly shocked to hear the Radio version as it was so different, not normally the type of music I would seek out, though I actually enjoyed listening to the single.

Initially I predicted that Brave New World would be a very dark and haunting track, or that there would be a darker version on the single, not too unlike what A23 did with the Ground single.

I do believe this is a prediction bombed. I understand what you're saying with A23 and Ground (I've listened to A23 and VNV a lot longer than Covenant,) but this is not anywhere close to where BNW is. BNW is more upbeat and poppy like many are screaming and complaining about, but frankly, I think it's a wonderful track and it was a natural choice for a single since it IS so poppy. No, Covenant is not going "mainstream", they've been "mainstream" electro/industrial for a long long time and that's where their roots are. Do not mistake Covenant for Britney Spears, who does bounce through genres. Covenant is still the same Covenant, they were just having a little fun with the music. Not all ind/ebm/electro has to be so gloomy and dark. VNV Nation, A23, IR, they all have that covered, Covenant is still pioneering their own way, much like VNV, A23, and IR all have. IR's got that powerful rhythm and vocal thing going, A23 has the gloomy past, present, and future thing to a slight mix of atmospheres, and VNV just has that... I don't know how to describe it, but you know what I mean. Anyways, don't bash Cov for going a slightly different route on their path, it's how we all get around in life, we adapt.

Oh and that list of "dark" artists is very very long: A23, VNV, IR, God Module, Suicide Commando, etc etc. Let Covenant have their fun being upbeat.

Mmmm... don't know if I'd agree if that is where their roots are per se, but that's a matter of subjectivity perhaps. Having said that, though I like darker, heavier, noisier stuff best of all, I liked the BNW single. It didn't strike me as that much of a departure for Covenant as they've always seemed rather versatile to me, depending on how and where the songs are intended to be "marketed", for lack of a better word. But they've always retained the Covenant-y tone and feel to what they do regardless (with a few exceptions, imo) and I like the consistency.

Personally, I couldn't care less if they went "mainstream" as long as they still made good music.

I don't mind either, as long as they remember to play Tension, Theremin, and Figurehead live on tour!
