Covenant Anime ^_^

So I posed the question in the DVD thread -- "If you were a Japenese cartoon, what would you look like?" (ala strongbademail)

I doubt my question was chosen for the DVD... so here is my take on Covenant manga/anime style. I'm just learning to draw in this style.

I appreciate, comments and constructive criticism!! For instance, I don't know if I got their eye colors completely right, etc.

Everything is done as vectors in Illustrator and Freehand. I wanted to do something more cartoony, but maybe next time. There is still some cleanup to do...

And thanks Claudia and Dani for all the great tour pictures which I used as references for the "stage".

Wow, cool! Great work!

Are the three pics below excerpts from the one on the top? Eskil seems to look slightly different in the pic below. But that's probably just my old old eyes.....

Thanks! :)

Yes.. they are all the same picture. Just the three individual ones are cut from the super big file which is in the directory where those images are.. and it was outputed at 300dpi (tabloid size) so its like 5000 pixels wide. Once I get all the cleanup done, I'll make more wallpapers.

I guess if it looks different it's because the top one is smaller and a lot of the detail is lost. (if you click on them, you get the full size img)

When I was drawing I was constantly magnifying it to 1600% percent and more.. I am a super perfectionist... I totally forgot no one would look at it that detailed

I was inspired by your South Park.. I wanted to make something cuter and funnier like that... but I guess I got a lil' obsessed with the details, and went for a more realistic look.. well, as realistic as you can get with eyes the size of golf balls :)

ROCKET SHOES!!!

Seriously, this is cool! I'm usually not one for anime, but when it involves certain people, I'm all there. ;) Much, much love for this.

Guess that's it. I just thought that Eskil looks more like Eskil in the one below. ;)

Still great work!

Oh, that's flattering. :sch: That was just a fun thing, and usually I'm not too perfectionist then...

I think your stuff is better. :)

I really don't like that kind of drawings. I mean it's well done, but... I don't like the manga style, it's a bit too puerile (?) for me... But of course these are good works technically, just not in my taste.

Wow that is so cool.
You are really talented. The perfectionism really works when you are doing anime I find!!! Its such a technical style to master - but you have done so admirably.

The figures are characteristically excellent, and the background details really give the whole piece dynamism.

Yeah - excellent - love it!!!

Wow. Thanks for all the kind words guys & chicas! But do you think I got the eye colors right? It's really hard to tell from photos and the Synergy video. Eskil was the easiest, but in the end I added a bit of an aquamarine color that I saw in some of the newer pics -- but it could just be the lighting. For Clas I went with slightly greenish grey and Joakim, sort of a greeny hazel color.

Atma. Yes, I know.. this is not fine art :) It's totally just for fun.

But I like it because there is something challenging about making a portrait that actually resembles the person, but with highly stylized eyes and noses.. after you do that, you really only have the overall bone structure and mouths to work with to get it right.. I still tried to work a bit of detail into the eyes & eyebrows tho. Clas already has very anime ish eyes, very wide open so I made his bigger.. and Joakim, kinda has what Tyra Banks best described as "bedroom sleepy eyes", ;) so I made his a little droopier. Eskil, has sort of normal shaped eyes, so I went with the standard "hero" anime eye... everything is still more exaggerated than what is normal for adult men in manga tho.

There are probably some tech probs in proportions and in the feet & perspectives, but I left it all for a less serious look... and to just finally get it finished!!

You know what... I can't get rid of the strange feeling, but for me Eskil on this picture looks like a blond haired version of MrJacko... And I'm afraid that makes not the best impression.

I like your picture. It's such a funny idea and drawn very well! :)

Hm, the eye-color… I think Eskil’s got more grey and blue but less green, but I’m not sure. Joakim's eyes seem to be of a slightly darker brown. Clas is just perfect. :)
All things considered, insanity is the only reasonable alternative.
